Breathe Day Spa – Is This Vancouver’s Best Facial?

Over the past decade, since I moved back to Vancouver, I’ve made a thorough test of the city’s spas. I have two favourites and I almost never go anywhere else: Sabai Thai Spa in Coal Harbour for their Ancient Thai Massage and the Hot Herba Massage Miraj Spa on South Granville for the Hammam & Gommage treatment (THE most relaxing thing you can do in Vancouver) and now… Breathe Day Spa for their Signature Facial. This is, after all, the facial that my coworker, Caitlin, recommends to me constantly....

Hollyburn Peak Trek aka JYinc

It’s another beautiful sunny July day in Vancouver. It’s mid week and my friend Jorge is visiting from San Francisco. It’s a workday for most, meaning “S” is hard at it and not able to join us on our outing today. “J” and I were talking last night and hatched a plan to go exploring today. We talked about grabbing a coffee in the morning and going for a hike afterwards. Well, as luck would have it, this day is truly glorious. The North Shore mountains are calling to...

The Prisoner

Despite never having seen The Prisoner TV series from the 1960s, apparently all it took was a reference by a friend on Facebook to turn my evening dreams into a version thereof. The dream began ‘part way through’, as it were, with a knowledge of past events. I, and many others, were residents in a The Village. The homes appears normal, although there were far too many of us living in each home, and the grounds and surrounding fields were pleasant. Y had just arrived in The Village and...

Workday Lunchtime Escape / “How to Use the iPhone Panorama” Function

Working for a multi-national with a heavy US sales presence means that July 4th can be a somewhat slower day in the office than some others. That’s not to say it’s not a work day, but it does mean that the lunch hour can be stretched, just a teeny bit. And an hour and a half is perfect for a quick shot across Vancouver’s Lionsgate Bridge, into Horseshoe Bay Village, and out to Whytecliff Park for a picnic lunch on the rocky ocean cliffs. This was also the first...

Wild Salmon with Fresh Cherry Salsa

Y BBQ’d a salmon last night. Stuffed with lemons and brown sugar, grilled to perfection. Delicious! A whole beautiful wild BC sockeye salmon is a lot for two people, however – so what to do with the leftovers? Cold salmon is delicious. Rather than reheat our tasty fish, I decided to celebrate his chilled out vibe. And add in early summer cherries – ’tis what’s in season at the moment here in the Pacific Northwest. Super simple recipe. Super tasty result.  Spring on a plate.  Enjoy! Print Wild Salmon...
